Question 1: How much does a beef animal cost?
We price our animals on a per head basis – most animals will cost about $1,400.00 plus processing costs. Or $700.00 for a half or $350.00 for a quarter plus processing.
Question 2: How much does processing cost?
Most processors charge so much per pound of carcass weight to cut and package the beef animal. This usually runs somewhere between .40 and .75 cents per pound. We work with many processors so we try to find the one closest to your home location. If you have a processor that you currently work with we will be glad to work with them also. For a 400 lb. half carcass at .50 cent per pound that adds up to $200.00 for processing. The customer is responsible for this cost.
Question 3: How much meat will I get from an animal?
It will depend on how it is cut but usually from 230 to 300lbs. per half of beef carcass.
Question 4: How much per pound will I have invested in a half-a-beef?
$700.00 for the animal plus $200.00 for processing equal $900.00 or about $3.46 per pound of wrapped meat cuts.
Question 5: How long does it take for my animal to grow before it is harvested?
That varies from animal to animal but our Colorado natural beef animals usually mature in 90 to 140 days. On our Beef List Page we will have an estimated harvest date in the animal’s description. That is why we update your animal monthly so you can track their growth and progress. If you want a grass fed animal it will take much longer for this animal to reach a desirable finished condition. We will give you some lead time before your animal is harvested so that you can make arrangements for storage of your meat when it is ready.
Question 6: What does natural mean?
Why do they eat from a self feeder? It means that our animals are raised in a natural humane way, making them Colorado all natural beef. They have had no growth steroids, or antibiotics or hormones in their feed. We raise all our feed on our farm and the animals graze on our pastures until they are put on self feeders to be finished.
Question 7: Why do they eat from a self feeder?
This is a natural way of letting the animal eat. They only eat when they are hungry and they are more relaxed and comfortable this way.
Question 8: What is dry-aging the beef carcass?
Our animals when harvested are typically dry-aged in a cooler for 14 to 21 days depending on the customer’s wishes. This increases the tenderness of the meat and adds to the flavor.
